Fourth of July falls on a Thursday this year, which could mean an extended celebration for many.
Festivities in Southern New Mexico include everything from a retro rock fest and fireworks to a quirky celebration of our legendary UFOs.
In Las Cruces, the fun starts at 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, with the city’s annual Electric Light Parade, which begins at Las Cruces City Hall, 700 N. Main St., proceeds south to Church Street, around to Water Street, and ends on North Main Street and Picacho Avenue.
On the Fourth of July, early birds can join a 6 a.m. fun run starting at Kohl’s parking lot.
At the city’s annual Fourth of July festivities at Meerscheidt Center, in addition to what’s billed as Southern New Mexico’s largest fireworks display, the free entertainment includes three legendary bands.
Grammy Award-winning Spyro Gyra, gearing up to celebrating their 40th year in 2014, has sold more than 10 million albums, earning one platinum and two gold honors for more than 30 albums. Their unique jazzy sound has entertained several generations.
Average White Band, a Scottish funk and R&B band best known for jazzy rock hits like “Pick Up the Pieces” and their albums “AWB” and “Cut the Cake,”
