Indian army mistook Jupiter, Venus for spy drones – New York News.
The military kept tabs on the “drones” over eastern Ladakh, a region in the the state of Jammu and Kashmir, fearing that the Chinese were violating India’s air space.
Soldiers logged 329 sightings of the objects from August 2012 to February 2013, the report said. The objects appeared over a mountain lake shared by India and Tibet. The objects appeared to violate the Line of Actual Control separating India and China.
The army called in astronomers from the Indian Institute of Astrophysics who examined the potential invaders and concluded that the soldiers indeed had been tracking planets and not drones.
“Our task was to determine whether these unidentified objects were celestial or terrestrial,” said astronomer Tushar Prabhu, according to The Telegraph.
